Our hosting company is experiencing some networking problems today. So far no BookVolume users have written in to complain but we wanted to be proactive about letting everyone know, just in case.

About one week ago we made some changes to the Alibris cart based on recommendations from the Alibris staff. Since then no complaints from our users. So (fingers crossed) all appears good with Alibris and BookVolume. Yay!

Although we haven't posted here about new features in a while, its not because we haven't been busy improving BookVolume! Here is a list of all the changes we've made to the system over the past several weeks:

Assign a custom alphanumeric PO number to your shopping cart for tracking purposes.

Search the Purchase Log by list name.

Delete items or a whole cart from the Purchase Log (also remove clear cart button from the checkout screen since its no longer necessary).

Renamed links in several places to "View/Edit" instead of the internal BookVolume order id for clarity.

New fields in the Purchase Log CSV export (order id, cart id, custom cart po).

Usability fix when using direct lookup for more than one item in a row.

Add items to the shopping cart at AbeBooks.com with a single click (like the Amazon cart).

Several new file import types (and if we don't have yours, please ask and we'll add it).

Master View for a master user or parent company to change between sub-accounts.

Also might be forgetting something...its been a busy fall for our engineers!

Several of our customers have experienced problems adding items to the shopping cart for Alibris.com. We have been communicating with our contacts at Alibris, and they are actively investigating the issue. Hopefully it will be resolved shortly. Thanks!

The most requested feature for the last few months is now a reality! You will notice a separate column for shipping amount in the purchase log, manual buying screen and checkout screens. You can also factor the shipping amount into the total price (for comparison to your max price) from the Surcharge Rules screen inside Settings.

Additionally, we took this opportunity to standardize all screens that display cost information. Now you will see the same figures for item cost, shipping cost and total cost everywhere in the system.

We went live with the new web server last night and already we are noticing great speed improvement. The new server allows much more room to grow so hopefully it will last us a lot longer than the last web server upgrade. Thank you to everyone for having patience!

We are very excited to announce two new reports that allow you to track purchases made through BookVolume. First, Missing Orders shows you all items that have been purchased but not received. If used in conjunction with the Receive Orders screen, you'll never miss another order without knowing it! Second, the Refunds Requested report allows you to see orders for which you have asked for a refund from the seller and have yet to receive the refund. Please let us know if you have any questions about these new features, thanks!

If you have used the BookVolume system in the last week or two you may have noticed some pages loading sluggishly. We are well aware of the problems and have a new web server on order to fix the slowness. Within one week from today the new server should be up and running and this will (hopefully) eliminate all the current lag in the system.

We have another update on our web server situation. The bad news is the load balancer turned out to be less reliable than we had been led to believe. We have since taken it out of the loop and things seem to be much smoother. The good news is we still have two independent web servers (client and client2) so if one goes down, our users can use the other server. Order Details: Now each item purchased through BookVolume is assigned a unique order number (different from the cart id). You will see this id linked from the purchase log and the new Receiving panel. You can save order information and notes about each item to make tracking purchases much easier!

Receiving panel: BookVolume now has a dedicated panel to receive orders. Search by cart id or isbn and select from a list to check received orders in much faster than before!

Have you tried to register a new account recently, only to receive an error from our system? We're VERY SORRY for the inconvenience. We just discovered an issue with the registration system that is now resolved. Please rest assured this problem impacted only the registration page of our system. If you re-submit the sign-up page, it should work ok now. Thank you!

We added a device on our network called a "load balancer" that will utilize both of our web servers in tandem. This will provide our users with better speed and reliability when using the BookVolume service. In theory, this means if one web server goes down, our users shouldn't even notice.

Today, at 4 pm, PST, we will be changing back over to the client.bookvolume.com url. If you're still using the client2 url at this time, you may get an ssl certificate error, and/or be asked to re-login. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The web server located at client.bookvolume.com is currently non-responsive. While our hosting company is working on the problem, please feel free to use the backup web server located at client2.bookvolume.com. Thanks!

The cacher on BookVolume has been upgraded to give us about 2X the speed. This means your lists should finish about twice as fast! All stability issues from this morning have also been resolved.

We pushed a new version of our data cacher last night to fetch data faster from venues and increase the speed of list processing. This new cacher has been on and off throughout the morning. We are actively working on a fix and systems should be back to normal very soon. Sorry about the inconvenience!

Earlier today for about an hour, due to a glitch at our hosting company, list searches were coming back blank. The issue has been resolved and the system is back to normal. Sorry for the trouble!

The URL for the BookVolume client will be changing from https://client.bookvolume.com/ to https://client.bookvolume.com/bv/ (notice "bv" on the end). This change will take place between 5 PM and 6 PM, PST today. If you have trouble logging in, please clear the cookies in your browser and go to www.bookvolume.com to re-login.

A redesigned purchase log includes a unique cart id for order tracking, new search fields, seller ship location, notes field and a new layout.

With the new Direct Lookup feature you can look up a title or isbn and go straight to the buying page without needing to first create a list. Try it out right from the Buying Lists homepage!

In the checkout page, the items from your list that were NOT purchased are now available through a link.

Now in your purchase you can see the seller's item description and the cost with surcharges factored in.

The issues affecting Abebooks.com have been resolved and the venue has been restored to BookVolume.

The Abebooks.com API is extremely slow or timing out today so we have temporarily disabled this venue in BookVolume until the issue has been resolved by Abebooks.

Between the hours of 6 PM and 10 PM on Thursday February 12, the BookVolume system may become unavailable. We anticipate downtime to be only a small fraction of this period but we still require a 4-hour maintenance window.

BookVolume now supports Amazon.fr (France) and Amazon.de (Germany). Currencies are converted to USD but are not guaranteed reliable.

From some time on Sunday afternoon until about 10 AM, PST this morning, foreign currencies were not being properly converted to USD. This problem has now been fixed.

Until further notice, BookVolume will only process one Auto list at a time. Feel free to start multiple lists and they will be processed sequentially. This change was made to better utilize system resources for all users.

Last night we deployed a new high-end server that is primarily dedicated to list processing. This new resource should speed up all aspects of our service and allow us room to grow for the future.

This morning we experienced an unexpected spike in activity and the BookVolume system was inaccessible for a period of time. As of now the system is back to normal. Sorry for the inconvenience!

In the settings panel you can now click "Reset Defaults" to restore BookVolume recommended defaults. Try it with Bad Keywords to get our comprehensive keyword list!

This is our biggest release yet! Updates include #1, Auto buying where you set filters, start a list, come back later, review your cart and check out. #2, Upload a csv file into a list. #3, Use the Purchase Log to check in received orders.

We just released three excellent features. #1, Add to a list by title/author/keyword search. #2, define Surcharge Rules to factor shipping or other cost factors. #3, Use Purchase Log to recall purchase records by date range.

This new feature allows you to filter listings by the maximum percentage of the list price you are willing to pay.
