What is BookVolume?
BookVolume is a tool designed to search several marketplaces simultaneously to efficiently buy books in volume online. Our buying engine works through a want list, checking each item on several online marketplaces to locate inventory below standard wholesale pricing. The system returns books matching your want list and within your search criteria. BookVolume also transfers your shopping cart to the appropriate marketplace, and keeps a purchase log to track what you buy. BookVolume does the work, that would take hours to do manually, in minutes. Searching over 10,000 ISBNs an hour, BookVolume is the fastest way to search and buy!
Why is BookVolume free? (how do we make money?)
We collect commissions from our partner sites like Amazon.com and Half.com for referring your business to their marketplace. Since the marketplaces pay us when you buy an item, we’ve made BookVolume completely free to use. You will not be charged any additional fees or commissions for using BookVolume by us or the venues. There are no contracts and no minimums to buy. When we say free, we mean free!
What kind of support does BookVolume offer?
Contact us via phone or email for any questions you have about the service. Our account mangers are available to personally help you and answer any questions, to make sure you get the most out of BookVolume.
Is BookVolume a secure site?
BookVolume takes the proper measure to ensure that all your information is safe and secure when using the site. BookVolume has comprehensive network security as well as multi-layer physical security. Systems are hardened and tested regularly for security threats and have High-grade Encryption.
Why do I have to register?
Inside BookVolume, you are able to personalize your free account by creating filters, uploading multiple want lists, and saved purchasing logs. Having you register for an account allows us to save your settings for the next time you log in so buying becomes easier, and faster.
Why isn’t Internet Explorer recommended with BookVolume?
BookVolume is compatible with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer web browsers. You may use Internet Explorer with BookVolume, but we strongly recommend using Mozilla Firefox because some features run twice as fast on Firefox, and certain features are not available when using Internet Explorer.
What if I logged into BookVolume with Internet Explorer?
That’s ok, since we are a web based system you can save your settings and the place where you left off. Log out of BookVolume and close Internet Explorer, open Firefox, and log back in. All your previous work will be saved, and you can now use all features on BookVolume.
How do I pay for the books?
The final step of the BookVolume process is checking out on the individual marketplaces. At this point you input your own billing, shipping and credit card information. You can also pay via PO (Purchase Order) when shopping on Amazon.com. See Can I pay via Purchase Order? for more information.
Do I have to pay each seller?
When you checkout you will pay the marketplace(s) you found your books on. You will be billed separately by the seller(s) and should receive confirmation of your order by each seller. Amazon.com will still itemize each listing on your credit card statement even though you paid all at once.
Do I need to sell you books in order to buy?
BookVolume does not work on a ratio system like many of the wholesale companies. You can buy through our system as much as you like without having to sell back a single book.
How do I import my want lists?
Copy and paste from a csv or text file into the BookVolume.com website. If you have a file that you need help uploading, let us know we can help! You can also upload a list directly from your POS system. We currently support MBS Point of Sale Format,MBS TA-Online, Budgetext (Comtext), NBC WinPRISM, Sequoia Retail System, Follett Courseworks POS, and Easylink. If we don’t have your POS listed let us know and we’ll add it.
Can I pay via Purchase Order?
Yes, you have the option to pay via Purchase Order (PO) on Amazon.com! Below is the link to the Amazon Corporate Account application page. Buying online has never been so easy! To set up a Net 30 PO account, click the link below:
Amazon.com – click here
How many items can I checkout at once?
Because of cart limitations with our featured marketplaces, you are only able to check out a maximum of 20 listings at a time. After completing a checkout, we will return you to BookVolume to check out the next 20 listings in your cart.
Buy Below Wholesale
Check online listings before going to your wholesalers. Simply set your ‘Max Price’ to fall below wholesale prices, so you’re never paying more than wholesale through BookVolume. If you are using ‘Max Price Percent Of’ filters, you can create create multiple lists by book type (i.e., textbook, trade book, paperback, etc.) and set a percentage in the ‘List Filters’ for each list to reflect the price discrepancy.
Purchase inventory through BookVolume that you know you can sell, and source the rest from wholesalers and publishers. This way, you can still take advantage of all the savings online, without all the work and added risk.
Break up large lists into smaller lists to find your items faster, and easily manage the receiving process. This generates more cart IDs, which makes it easier to identify and receive items. It’s also a good idea to include the ‘Custom PO’ or ‘Cart ID’ on the Recipient Name of your shipping address for easy identification.
Reduce Order Cancellations
The longer your list is, the longer it takes to process. This means that the first book on your list might be bought before BookVolume is finished processing the last book. We recommend shortening your buying lists to no more than 100 titles per list.
Generate custom purchasing reports with the BookVolume ‘Purchase Log’ based on date range, cart ID or custom PO, ISBN, list name, and seller name. Once you generate the report, just download/export it as a CSV file to integrate your BookVolume records with the rest of your system.
Where do the books come from?
We provide access to countless booksellers that are all competing to offer the best price for each book. To give you access to this network of booksellers, we merge multiple online marketplaces including Amazon.com, Half.com, Alibris, AbeBooks, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, and Amazon.ca. By combining these marketplaces into a single screen, the purchasing process is extremely efficient while offering unparalleled cost savings.
In general, items shipped via Expedited Shipping (including: USPS Priority, Fed Ex Home Delivery, UPS Ground, Airborne Express Ground Delivery) should arrive within 2-6 business days from the ship date. To hide listings that are not available for expedited shipping, set the shipping filter in BookVolume to “expedited”. Also, don’t forget to select expedited shipping when you check out on the marketplace for fastest shipping!
In general, items shipped via Media Mail should arrive within 4-14 business days from the ship date, excluding Alaska and Hawaii which may take longer. Note that the USPS does not guarantee a specified delivery time for Media Mail.
Please visit our Shipping Reference page for a full comparison between venues.
How can I get my books in 3-5 business days?
Simply go into your Global Filters in BookVolume and check the expedited box. BookVolume will now only show sellers that have the ability to ship your books expedited. Now when you checkout on the marketplace, every one of the listings that you found in BookVolume will have the option to expedite your order.
How do I identify books that arrived without a packing slip?
Get started by going to your purchase log, search for the cart ID, seller, or ISBN and use the information on order records to try and match the packages. Even without a packing slip, you should still have a shipping location, possibly a seller name, and a description to compare against on your package.
If you still have books that you haven’t been able to identify, log into you venue account, or search your email for the order confirmations, and email any sellers you haven’t crossed off your list to ask for tracking information and a shipping address to identify the last few packages.
For future orders, try adding a note to your shipping address saying “For positive feedback please include packing slip.” One of our users made this recommendation and reported a huge difference in the amount of orders that arrived with a packing slip.
How do I return books?
Typically you will email the seller through the marketplace website where you purchased the book and ask for the return address, however, keep in mind that return policies vary from seller to seller. Don’t forget to leave a note inside the BookVolume purchase log and set the refund request date for the order to keep track of your pending returns.
How do I get and manage refunds?
If you need a refund from a seller, email them through their order page on the appropriate marketplace. Some sellers have storefronts that you can hyperlink to from BookVolume. After you request a refund, be sure to add them to your ‘Refund Requested” page, and log any refund you receive on the ‘Order Details’ page.
Why should I sell my books on BookVolume?
BookVolume offers price comparisons from multiple buyback sites that allow you to instantly find the best prices all on one site. If you have any dead stock or that you haven’t been able to get rid of, or if you’re looking to increase the amount of books you accept during buyback, it’s great to be able to do a quick search, find a buyer, and be able to sell it immediately.
Do I have to buy books to sell on BookVolume?
No. You can exclusively use our selling tool without buying anything through our site. However, we still highly recommend using the buying tools to make sure you’re taking advantage of the best deals online while shopping for books.
Who are our partners?
All of our partners are screened and tested by us to make sure you can trust doing business with them, and it’ll be profitable to do so. We encourage you to click on the links below to learn about them individually.
Make sure that the book you have exactly matches the book you search(4th edition w/CD as opposed to 4th edition w/o CD, for example) and also that the book is in good condition. Wrong or damaged books will not be returned to you.
How do I sell books?
The selling process is simple and very similar to our buying process. You’ll start by either searching for a single ISBN, or uploading a CSV file with multiple ISBNs, and clicking the ‘Find Buyer’ button. We’ll then show you the available buyers, their prices, and how many copies they’re currently accepting. Once you’ve selected buyers for your books, you’ll be directed to the checkout. From the checkout, we’ll direct you to each buyer’s website so that you can confirm your sale with them.
Do I have to pay for shipping?
Shipping costs will be covered by the buyers. They’ll provide with you a prepaid shipping label that you can print out and put on your package. Because they’re paying for shipping, most of these sites will require you to sell a minimum of $10 worth of books.
